What is Therapeutic Horticulture in a nutshell?

Therapeutic Horticulture is the engagement of a person in gardening and plant-based activities, It is typically used for individuals with physical or mental illness or disability but may also be used to improve the social, educational, psychological, and physical well-being of older adults as well as those recovering from injury.

It helps improve memory, cognitive abilities, task initiation, language skills, and socialization. In physical rehabilitation, horticultural therapy can help strengthen muscles and improve coordination, balance, and endurance. In vocational horticultural therapy settings, people learn to work independently, problem solve, and follow directions.

Individuals with physical, mental, emotional or social aspects that will relived/improved by participation in horticultural activities. No treatment plans.

To improve the quality of life, well-beings, socialise, confidence of participants. Improve fine motor skills and develop the mental space.

It centre around the interactions with living plants designed to enhance wellbeing.

What we consider:

Who are participants and what are the main aims/goals and how often session needs, one o one or in a group and where to hold session?

  • Create a schedule of activities for weeks or months Follow a session plan for each activity.
  • Monitor all participants and adapt situation if needed. Records activity outcomes, funny comments, care notes, facts, discussion.
